Minimalism asks: what can we remove? Brutalism asks: what is essential? These are not contradictory questions — they are complementary ones. At Studio Moncada, we live in the overlap.

The Minimalist Principle

Every product we make starts with a single question: does this need to exist? If we cannot answer clearly, we do not make it. Our range is deliberately small. Each vessel serves a purpose. Each candle has a reason. We do not produce variations for the sake of variation.

The Brutalist Foundation

Where minimalism strips away, brutalism reveals. Our concrete is not hidden behind paint or veneer. The form is the surface. The material is the finish. When you look at a Moncada piece, you see exactly what it is made of — aggregate, binder, water, intention.

This honesty extends to our process. We do not use CNC machines or automated production. Every piece passes through human hands at every stage. The slight variations between pieces are not flaws — they are evidence of human making.

Sofia as Inspiration

Our home city of Sofia is itself a study in this intersection. Brutalist architecture stands alongside Ottoman domes, Soviet monuments, and modern glass towers. The city does not choose one identity — it holds all of them simultaneously. We draw from this layered honesty.
